From Swanky to Skanky in a Few Short Hours

After sitting around all day, we made plans to meet up with Anthony for dinner and other nighttime activities.

Anthony wasn't home when we got to his place. We jumped on into the closest stale beer joint, the Macdougal St. Ale House. After ordering our brews, we looked around and noticed a distinct lack of females. Mix that with the music and the two dancing sailors gave us one impression. So if you are looking for a gay bar in the village then you might want to check out this place.

Anthony had us up for a little wine and caviar. Well, ok, no caviar.

Look at these two, ying and yang.

After dinner, Anthony took us to the very exclusive Soho House. We were totally the hottest ones there.

Especially me, I ruled the place.

And then...from Swank to Skank. We split ways with Anthony and met Cristy and Danny at Lit. It wasn't really that skanky, but when you put it up against the Soho House...well you know.

Cristy told me to take a picture of this guy. I don't know why. Here it is Cristy.

We danced the night away. Some dude invited us to a party in DUMBO, but I couldn't get these guys to go after the bar closed. Weak.

Blog Black Out

Ernest is on a momentary Media Black Out. He was caught aiding another blog. True, the blog he was helping needs a lot of help, but his disloyalty to Sofia y El Machuca can not go unpunished.

Fugazi must be listened to

I've become worried that if I don't post, this thing will die. It's not just paranoia. I've been readin' up on all this hootinany. New York magazine has a pretty good article this week on blogging (read it here). Below is an excerpt (an excerpt...an excerp...an expert) from the article:

What’s more, a blog is like a shark: If it stops moving, it dies. Without fresh postings every day—hell, every few minutes—even the most well-linked blog will quickly lose its audience. The A-listers cannot rest on their laurels. Federated Media owner John Battelle recently published a book on Google, and while on the book tour, he neglected his own well-trafficked blog (No. 81 on Technorati’s rankings) for several days. “And suddenly I was getting all these e-mails going, ‘If you don’t get your shit together, I’m out of here,’ ” he recalls. He stayed up late that night frantically adding posts. “If you start sucking,” he says, “it’s through.”

Writing about blogging on a blog has got to be some kind of "jump the shark" moment. Oh well, here is another: Fugazi. Once I drove to New Orleans by myself to see Fugazi live. This was the day after I spent all night writing a paper. Midway I had to pull over in some beat town to take a nap in a Mcdonalds parking lot. My son will be weaned on the soulful tunes of Fugazi.

Furniture has no say in life,
It was made to be used by people.
How many times have you felt like a bookcase
Sitting in living room gathering dust

Full of thought already written?

Power Trippin

Sofia is now gainfully employed. All of a sudden she's walking around the apartment giving out orders: do the dishes, make the bed, pick up your clothes, brush your teeth...man, total Power Trip!!!

Just kidding, thanks to everyone for their well wishes and prayers. They worked, Sofia was hired at the Law School today. We celebrated with Charlene at Four Faced Liar.

We discussed taxes, California, and James Joyce.

Now you know everything. Goodnight.

Big Ern!!

My favorite skaters change from time to time (besides Geoff Rowley he is always on top). I become obsessed and seek out footage of certain skaters. This week I'm diggin' Ernie Torres. Dude's sick. I wanted to post a video from DLXSF.com that they just put up. Unfortunately, my web skills are primitive, but you can find it by following this link.

This ain' it, but it's still pretty good.

Ernie just became pro and his first board series is classic, modeled after my favorite Mexican beer Tecate. Once they go on sale (CHEAPskate) I am for sure gettin one.

I like to think Tecate is the Mexican Budweiser. I could be wrong, but that's the way it is in my head and that's the way I like it. Well, maybe not, because I am not a huge fan of Budweiser.

Valentimes

Lucky me, I've been kept prisoner in my apartment all day because Aaron took my house keys. Gotta love him.

You get the point. Happy Valentine's Day!

¡Feliz Día de San Valentín!

Blizzard Part One

8:30 am: I am too excited to sleep. Let's wake up and check out the snow.

View from the window. Let's go somewhere.

9:30 am: A blizzard, hmm, kind of limits our choices of places to go. I know, the beach. Let's go to the beach. Perfect.

Coney Island, here we come!

10:15 am: We are the first ones here.

You think the Cyclone is going to run today. This is the saddest I have ever seen Coney Island, but it was a lot of fun.

Brighton Beach Tundra.

Beach snow angels.

Looks inviting, Sofia was this close to getting in.

Fat boys for life!!

11:00 am: What were we thinking, let's get the heck out of here.

Sport.

11:45 am: Those are our tracks, no one has left. People are sane.

i did something too

i did make us breakfast, lunch, and brownies, started the video, did yoga, and made the bed.
See below for the rest of our day.

Blizzard Style

Oh Saturdays, I love em. We did absolutely nothing. Here it is. Actually we did quite a bit, at least I did. I woke up early for my dentist appointment. Let me stop and interject my thought on the dentist. Getting out of the dentist office is the best feeling in the world. It is hard to explain, but getting out of the dentist is like getting out of prison. While I was sitting in that chair, it was the worst time of my life, I hated it. The grinding, the picking, the tugging at teeth. Rinsing, spitting up blood, just horrible. When the lady says, "Now I am going to polish your teeth" it is like heaven, a message from God. I step out of the office and the world is brighter. I can conquer nations and father beautiful children. I am a man. It's an unbelievable feeling hitting those streets after your appointment. I'm sorry, it is tough to put into words. It's also a fleeting feeling. An hour later I was eating waffles, which also make me happy, but not quite the same and I couldn't remember how I felt on those empty streets. Anyyyyyyyyyyyway, back to today. We did nothing. A storm was coming. A blizzard. Lets get ready to rumble!!

We took a walk as the snow began.

Later on we actually did something. We went into the city to meet up with Brian and (name later to be determined). They were going to the Slightly Stoopid concert. We tried to get tickets but they were sold out. We met them for drinks and dinner before the show. Brian and I made plans to skate on Sunday or at least eat lunch.

I love you guys.

When we arrived home the snow was starting to stick. It is supposed to snow through tonight and tomorrow. Bring it on.

Winter Olympics 2006

I love me some Olympics and tonight is the opening ceremonies. Thankfully, Sofia shares my enthusiasm for them, or at least she pretends she does. I prefer the winter to the summer games. I'm sure most of you would think my favorite winter sport is snowboarding. WRONG! I think it's stupid that they are in the Olympics. I just pray that skateboarding will never get into the summer games. That would be horrible. Although, it would be funny to have an Olympic sport which is illegal in most areas of the United States.

Oh, sorry about that short rant. My favorite sport is Curling:

Pops and I fell in love with this exciting sport during the last Olympics. We spent hours watching and learning the finer points of the sport. I am so amped for the matches.

One more thing I have to mention is Michelle Kwan. This is the biggest rip off. She should not be in Italy. I am so pissed they let her on the team. She does NOT deserve to be there.
If you are not familiar with this story click here.
Does anyone know if this has ever happened before?

Oh and her sugary sweet character is the icing on the cake. She annoys me so much. I'm not hoping she falls, but I will certainly be rooting against her. I can't stand figure skating anyway. It's the slowest progressing sport I have ever seen.

Other than that, enjoi the games.

Business as Usual

You know the deal. People come into town—We go to Grimaldi's Pizza. Monday was no different.

Before meeting up with Ernest and his guests, Ryan Parker and his wife Amy, we killed some time at Water Street.

The first pizza had a bit too much cheese, but it still rocked.

It was all about the wine for Ernest.

We took them to Water Street after pizza.

I want some more pizza, who's next?

Not So Super Bowl

Knowing that we live in NYC, you'd assume we would be attending some crazy Super Bowl party. Well, your assumption would be right. We went to a crazy sick party.

Let's get this party started!

See, I am totally raging. Notice the Budweiser, a must for any Super Bowl party.

Sofia getting down with a beer and a chip.

Seriously, it wasn't that great of a game. We were rooting for Pittsburgh and it was cool they won, but the game was kind of boring. And the commercials were weakish. We made a list of good and bad commercials, but I can't find it now.

The worst part about the whole event was the half time show. COME ON!!!! This is Detroit ROCK CITY. Let's get some local rockers up there. There are plenty to choose from. What's the deal with the Rolling Stones? The Super Bowl is the ultimate American sports event and they throw a buncha wrinkled old Red Coats up there, what an insult.

5 Bands That Could of/Should of Been Chosen for Half Time
1.The White Stripes - not only do they rock hard, they are wholesome (something Americans can't get enough of)
2. Iggy Pop - throw in some Stooges and its a real rock show
3. Ted Nugent - for real, he's the Motor City Madman for goodness sake
4. KISS - one word, PYRO
5. Kid Rock - actually, I'd rather have the Rolling Stones up there than Kid Rock

Today with Stew #527

A post without photos is a sad one indeed. Here it is anyway. A recounting of Friday evening.

Friday (I know, I already posted for Saturday, big deal) was Sofia's last day working at NYU Law and we celebrated with some of her coworkers. Our plan was to go to V Bar, but it was way too small and crowded. I proposed we go to The Dove.

The Dove is a quiet little place Javier and I found while wandering around the village one November day looking for Plymouth gin. We found none, but settled at The Dove. They had "just run out" and that was good enough for us.

Sofia's coworkers marveled at the cuteness of it all. We had a few and most everyone split.
Sofia, Jeff and I were the only ones left. We had dinner at Swish Cafe. It was ok, I wish I had the shabu shabu. But we did play some serious games of Pigs.

On the train home I wrote two poems, one about two holy Indians and the other about a young Dr. Del Castillo I saw on the train. Sofia fell asleep.

Before arriving home we purchased a slice (more like a slab) of Chocolate Peanut Butter Bomb! from Cocoa Bar. We indulged in that while watching part of The Staircase an excellent documentary, which was recommended to us by Chris. I fell asleep.

If you are still reading, Sofia ate more of the cake. Goodnight.

Tommy Lee Jones is my hero

On Saturday we met up with Anthony to watch The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. It was pretty good. I think it was a western, but others may disagree. They need to start making more western movies. Like some real Clint Eastwood stuff. Now Sofia thinks we are going to name our kid Melquiades, but I will probably put the kibosh on that.

We bought tickets, but no one ever collected them. Translation: I'm never paying $10.50 again.

After, Sofia made us spaghetti. Whenever someone enters our apartment now, they have to play this game Dad and Linda gave me.
