St. Pat = Rubbish

Grimaldi's is back on point.

We stopped for a digestif @ Rebar the new spot in D.U.M.B.O.

The crowd was a little old. Actually really old.

But the draft list was top notch.

We met up with Sofia's work mates for Jeff's Bday. They were amped to make an appearence on the blog. Obviously.

Beer and cupcakes. Works.

Spooky jukebox.

Forget about it.

Where the Wild Things Are

Cristy came over really early.

Just to show us her new balloon sweater.

Then Sofia and I went for a walk.

Up at the park we spotted this massive creature.

And found these tracks.

And these. Be careful out there Slopers, it's a damn jungle.

The rest of the park was made up of dumb kids though.

Pretty safe.

Hand tree?

Found Stuff Tuesday #2

Two New York License Plates

I found them while skating an old, abandoned gas station in east Park Slope—down by the Gowanus Canal. They were in a miserable state. Sofia scolded me for bringing such filth home. Two weeks later I gave them a washing; now they shine. Every other day Sofia asks me what I'm gonna do with them. Hang em, sell em, whatever. They are a little piece of treasure and they are stickin around for a bit.

Thirsty Thursday #1

Forgive me for getting this up late. As you may have noticed we are trying to get some daily theme posts going here. For the Thirsty Thursday posts I will be sharing with you a new beer, some info and aspects. Every Thursday—a new beer.

Sierra Nevada Stricklander
Apparently this is a very rare beer. It's also a new beer from Sierra Nevada; only one person has reviewed it at Beeradvocate.com. I had this at the Gate this past Thursday where they were having a Sierra Nevada sampling. The best thing. . . we got to keep the pint glasses! Info on the beer:
Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale
ABV: 8.5%

Here is what one beer nerd had to say about it:
The beer poured a very clear, light golden color. Initially deceived as to the strength and quality of the beer. There was a slight white head to the beer the dissipated quickly and left a floating island in the middle. There was a spicy, somewhat fruity nose to the beer and a bit of yeasty funk. The taste was spicy as well with a touch of malty sweetness and some additional citrus tastes to balance it all out. This beer is deceiving as hell with the high abv. Not so much in the first but after the second I was really feeling the fullness of the body and really enjoying it.

Today whilst at the laundromat I found this torn and washed letter. This is pretty much all I could gather:

A lil heavy on the bocce, no?

Steve and Kristin were in town for the weekend. We took them to Bonnie's. I never seem to take any pictures inside there. I guess all my concentration is focused on the massive burgers. We waited for our table at Great Lakes.

Kristin had a cider. I don't blame her. They are pretty good, it's just that if I am gonna have an adult beverage it's most likely gonna be a beer. Sorry cider.

After Bonnies. Union Hall.

Sorry, I realise the blog is a little bocce heavy lately. But Kristin wanted to play. And they did. They played two nerds.

Kristin thought about her next shot.

And she went.

Unimpressed.

The nerds beat them.

old brewmaster

Saturday after a morning filled with laundry. We decided we needed to unwind and went to Redhook. The weather was really cooperating.

We wandered the streets in Red Hook for a while.

Found a possible apartment building.

Then we went to the Sixpoint Craft Ales Brewery Tour.

They were a little late to start so we heard some teen bands play.

Then we were schooled in malted barley and hops.

The proper fermentation temperature.

This was all by the Brewmaster who seemed pretty nice although he was kinda odd and sorta made me uncomfortable when he leaned in while shaking my hand to introduce himself and said, "I'm Shane...what are you doing tonight "

Grimaldi's is Over

We made pizzas over the weekend. They were bloody tasty.

Sofia: "If anyone tried these, they would beg me to open a pizza joint."

INTRODUCING BROOKLYN LOCAL 1

From Brooklyn Brewery:
The Brooklyn Brewery is proud to introduce Brooklyn Local 1, our first 100% bottle conditioned Belgian-inspired ale in a 750ml bottle. Brewmaster Garrett Oliver likens this beer to a Belgian tripel or a strong saison, but he says it really is a Brooklyn original, produced using the artisanal "Methode Brooklynnaise". Brooklyn Local 1 launches in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut this month, then moves to other Eastern states as supplies increase.
